Russell Simmons Wolfe engineering notebook, 1910-1911, 1977.

The collection consists of a notebook and a photocopy of a letter. The notebook describes engineering experiments undertaken by Clemson College student J.E. Redden and his "squad" for Mechanical Laboratory courses 214 and 215 from September 26, 1910-May 15, 1911. Some pages of the notebook are missing. Tthe July 11, 1977, letter is from J.W. Gordon Gourlay, Director of the Clemson University Libraries to the donor, Russell S. Wolfe II; it includes notes regarding the attribution of the notebook to Russell Simmons Wolfe instead of Russell S. Wolfe II's father, Lenaire Wolfe.

Russell Simmons Wolfe graduated from Clemson College in 1911 with a BS in Agriculture. He was variously employed as an agricultural engineer, breeder and grower of flowering bulbs, explosives expert and sales jobber. He also served in the U.S. Army, retiring with the rank of colonel.
